Shawn Eichler was a recurring character in the third and fourth seasons of Clearwater. He is a professor at Tallahassee University and teaches the nursing program. He was in a relationship with his student Caylee Daniels until they were found out by the principal and Shawn was fired and expelled from teaching in Clearwater. He was portrayed by Justin Chatwin.

Season 3[]

In Girl On Fire, he is seen outside the bus for the nursing program and is frustrated because the school let in more girls than he has room for. He informs them that 8 of them will be cut and apologizes, but tells them that he will keep it fair by giving them a test in which the highest scores get to stay. He then tells everyone to study. The next day he starts giving out different tests to each pair of students and gives Caylee and Miranda an IV that they need to give to a mannequin. When another student secretly knocks over the IV and splashes blood all over the room, Shawn runs over and tells Caylee and Miranda to leave for the bathroom and not come back. At the end of the episode, Caylee comes back into his room while he is grading tests and asks for a second chance because she wants to be in this program so badly. He finds her drive refreshing and tells her that she's already back into the program because he is proud of her.

In Stubborn Love, he is in the music store at the mall and overhears Caylee saying how much she loves the song that is on and tells her what it is. She is happy to see him and asks what he's doing there, so he tells her that he likes to get a new CD every week and loves all genres. He then reveals that he's a musician currently working on a demo on the side of his teaching. He then leaves, saying he'll see her the next day in class. In class the next day, he comments on how well Caylee puts in an IV which causes her friends to call her the teacher's pet. After the bell rings, he asks to talk to Caylee, which makes her friends tease her even more. He asks if she would help him unpack some equipment for extra credit and she delightfully says yes. He then goes off to get the boxes as Caylee primps herself. After an hour, he tells Caylee that she can go and he can do the rest, but Caylee says it's better than staying at home and that she's having fun. He then tells her that they're done and thanks her for the help. Caylee comments on how good his music taste it and he thanks her and asks her to call him Shawn when they're out of class. She then kisses him and stops immediately, apologizing. He tells her that it was okay and pulls her in for a longer kiss, making sure that was okay after they stop. Caylee tells him that it was, but then quickly leaves.

In Pills N Potions, he is in the school office and is happy to see Caylee when she walks up to him. He asks her how she is and she asks about his thanksgiving, which he reveals he spent alone besides his dog. He then slips and says that he wishes she were there with him, but takes it back immediately, causing an awkward moment. He is taken away by Mr. Hanson who needs him for something and tells her that he'll see her in class, winking at her as he leaves. Before class that day, Caylee comes in and asks if he needs any more help with equipment and he tells her that he could always use help with grading, asking her to stay later that day which she agrees to. He then tells her that he's never had a student like her before and they get closer, but are interrupted as Miranda walks in and Caylee rushes to her seat. After class, they are grading papers together and Shawn mentions that what's going on between them can't happen. She asks what he thinks is going on and he tells her that she's 17 and he's 24, but then she corrects him and tells him that she's 18. He then says that he's her teacher and they shouldn't go there as she starts to leave. He then changes her mind and kisses her they start to make out in his chair.

In Misery Business (2), he is walking in the hallway with Caylee and tells her that he wants to take her out to dinner, but she quickly shushes him, paranoid that someone will overhear them. He tells her that no one can hear them and asks her if it's a yes, which she says it is. She then leaves him to help her crying friend.

In Hard Out Here, he is making out with Caylee before class and asks her how she's so good at it, so she tells him that she's had a lot of practice. He stops, confused, and asks her if she's kidding, which she says she is. He then says that they should stop before another student comes in, which they do. He asks her what's wrong since she's been acting down lately and she explains that she misses Jamie, so he tells her that she'll be out of rehab soon and will be better than ever. He then reminds her how he wants to take her out and that he's going to that night to a fancy restaurant downtown. He then hands her a blonde wig, saying that she can wear it so they don't have to sit in the back of the restaurant in case someone recognizes her and can be a real couple for once. She tries it on and he says that it should be her new look, kissing her.

At the restaurant, he tells her that he got them a seven course meal and tells her that she's worth it when she brings up how expensive it must have been. He asks where she's thinking about going to college and she reveals that she has applied to some ivy leagues, even though they might be a long shot. She asks him where he went and he reveals that he took online courses in prison after being blamed for his father's drugs. Caylee is shocked at first, but accepts it and is eager to learn more about him. During their final course of chocolate cake, Shawn says that it looks amazing and urges Caylee to at least try it when she says how full she is. He feeds a bite to her and notes how tired she looks, so she tries to go to the bathroom, but faints. He freaks out, calling for help. He checks her pulse and takes her wig off, telling the people who have gathered that she just fainted. He watches as she is taken into an ambulance and wonders what happened.

He sees her at the hospital after he dad leaves the room and asks for an explanation, but tells her that she shouldn't be embarrassed about it. She reveals that she is diabetic and didn't want to tell him because she didn't want him looking at her like she's fat. He tells her that her weight doesn't matter to him, even though she's not fat, but that he does care that she takes care of herself. He then says that he feels bad putting her in that position, but makes sure she's okay. She then says he should go before her dad comes back and he kisses her goodbye.

Season 4[]

In Bad Blood, Shawn is making out with Caylee on her couch when they are interrupted by Liam calling Caylee. After the call, Caylee tells him she has to leave because her friend needs help, which upsets Shawn since he has a dinner for them in the oven. She tells him she'll make it up for him as she leaves, but he still looks disappointed. She later ignores a text from him.

In Glory and Gore, he calls Caylee on the morning of her 18th birthday and says he hopes she doesn't have anything planned that night, since he has something special in mind. She tells him she has plans already, so he asks if they can do something the next night, which she agrees to. He tells her that he'll see her in class and they hang up.

He and Caylee are in his apartment after she skips her classes to be with him, and after he asks her if she wants to do that, she tells him she'd rather be with him and grabs his crotch, anticipating them having sex now that she is of legal age. Shawn is taken aback by this and pulls away, telling her to calm down. He asks her what she's doing and is confused when she tells him she's trying to turn him on. Caylee explains that he said he had special plans and thought that meant them finally having sex. He tells her that he's not having sex with her and that he just made her pasta. Caylee is very embarrassed and he tells her it was just a miscommunication and nothing to be worried about, saying that despite dating for 5 months, he doesn't want to have sex yet. Caylee gets upset upon hearing this and grabs her purse to leave, but Shawn tries to stop her. Caylee tells him everything she's planned has been ruined, and Shawn is surprised to hear she's been planning for this. She tells him normal couples have sex after five months together, but he tells her that she's his student, and they're not normal at all. He explains that he doesn't not want to have sex with her just because of her age and tells her that she's pretty when she asks if it is because of her diabetes. With him unable to give her a good reason, Caylee starts crying and rushes out into the rain, leaving Shawn upset.

Shawn catches Caylee having a moment with Liam and breaks it up by asking if they can talk about her test scores. They go into his office and he tells her it looked like they were having a moment, but she rejects this. He tells her that she either loves him or she loves Liam, and she can't love both. Caylee is upset that Shawn doesn't want her having friends now and he explains that he doesn't want to have sex with her because she's still his student and it's weird. She tells him in a few months she won't be his student, but he tells her it doesn't matter and he still doesn't want to go there with her. Caylee rolls her eyes at him and starts walking away, and he follows her and tells her that sex is not the only important thing in a relationship. She tells him she doesn't care about the sex, she cares that he sees her as just some kid in her class and she wants him to look at her like the adult she now is, saying she needs time to think about them. Shawn tells her she's overreacting as she leaves and looks mad at how things went.

In Elastic Heart, Shawn approaches Caylee with her friends and asks if they can speak privately about her grade. Caylee begrudgingly follows him into a brand new office, which he explains he got after signing a contract with Principal Hanson that he will teach at the school for 3 more years. Caylee asks why he brought her here, since he already said he doesn't see them going anywhere. Shawn tells her that's not what he said, and apologizes, saying he saw her more of his student than his girlfriend. He proposes that the night of her graduation they can have sex, this makes Caylee very happy and she, without thinking, tells him that she loves him. She catches herself and tries to take it back, but Shawn tells her it's alright because he loves her too. They kiss and Shawn tells her to get to class and he'll talk to her later, kissing her again and looking very happy as she leaves.

Caylee visits his office later that day and asks him if they can let people know about them after she graduates. He tells her that they should wait a little bit, so people don't assume they were dating when he was still her teacher. They agree to make it look like a slow burn and have an intimate moment at his desk where they start to make out and he wraps his arms around her. Suddenly, Principal Hanson walks in and is shocked by what he sees. Shawn and Caylee immediately separate and he tries to make up an excuse for what was happening, but Hanson tells him to go to his office immediately. Shawn is upset, but follows orders.

Caylee finds Shawn later that day as he is piling things into his car. He tells her she shouldn't be looking for him since he doesn't want to be seen with her. She apologizes for kissing him at school, but he tells her he should have known something like this would happen, and says it's his own fault for getting involved in something like this. Caylee says that this doesn't have to change anything, but Shawn tells her that it does and there's nothing that they can do about it since soon, her dad, her friends, and everyone will know about this. Caylee says that they can tell them they're in love, but Shawn tells her he's not in love with her. Caylee tells him not to say that, but he grabs her arm and tells her to face it and that they're done. Liam suddenly intervenes and punches Shawn in the face, surprising him and leading him to drive away quickly.

Caylee later calls Shawn and tells him they have to talk about what happened, and Shawn tells her that she got him fired and there's nothing else to talk about. Caylee tells him this isn't all on her, since he knew what he was getting into. Shawn tells her it was stupid what they did and that he's leaving Clearwater to move back with his parents, since he won't find work there anymore. Caylee still does not want things to end, but Shawn is adamant that they have to and says goodbye before hanging up.
