Patrick Webber is a recurring character and the father of regular character Ethan Webber who appears in the fifth season. Being a gay man, it is inferred he split with Ethan's mother after he was born. Ethan was initially embarrassed about his father's sexuality, especially when he starts to date one of Ethan's teachers, Carl Stein. Patrick only wants his son to be proud of him, but finds this impossible since he is gay. He is portrayed by Liev Schreiber
Character History[]
Season 5[]
In Cool For the Summer, he tells Ethan that he made him breakfast and Ethan corrects him and says he that made breakfast for whoever he slept with the night before. Patrick says it's true, but he made some for Ethan as well and tells him that he wants Ethan to meet the guy he's with right now since they're starting to get serious, but Ethan says no. Patrick then says he's a keeper and has his own apartment and is a teacher, which Ethan agrees sounds better than the other bums he's been with. He asks Ethan again to meet him, but Ethan tells him no and to get seconds from whoever it is. Patrick looks discouraged as he watches his son go back to his room.
Later on at the beach, Patrick notices Ethan is there as well and walks over to him and his friends. He tells Ethan that he didn't know he was going to be there and tells Ethan's friends that he is just embarrassed of his father when they say they're shocked Ethan actually has parents since they've never met them. Mr. Stein, the kid's teacher comes by to see who Patrick is talking to and is then shocked to see his students. After he gets embarrassed and leaves, Ethan tells his father to leave as well and Patrick tells him that he had no idea Carl was his teacher, but Ethan doesn't care and tells his father to leave again, which he does, but looks very upset.
In Used to Love You, he is making out with Carl in the kitchen when Ethan comes home. Patrick quickly apologizes for doing so in front of Ethan and they go to his room. Unknown to them, while they are gone, Ethan takes pictures of Carl's test keys and sells them to people at school for votes in the presidential election.
