Dylan Taylor was a recurring character in the Clearwater series and the father of regular character Scott Taylor. He was a highly religious man who was no-nonsense and put his faith before everything else, as seen when he kicked his son out of the house after finding out about his homosexuality. He was portrayed by Jeff Daniels.
Character History[]
Season 1[]
In This Is How I Disappear (1), his son, Scott, gets home from a Pride meeting and shows his parents the informational pamphlet from it. Upon reading it, Dylan asks judgingly what a transgender and pansexual is, not understanding and calling them sex addicts. When Scott calls them judgmental, Dylan says that it's the truth that these people are weird, and he doesn't want Scott hanging out with them. Scott calls them his friends, but Dylan tells them they aren't anymore, saying this is all wrong and he shouldn't be exposed to it. Scott tells them he is going whatever they say, but his father tells him they are already starting to get to his head, and these people need help, only bringing drama to Scott's life.
In This Is How I Disappear (2), Dylan sees Scott walking home late from school with their neighbor, Lauren, and pulls aside, asking him where he's been. After Scott had told him he was going to be at Eliza's, Dylan points out to him that he called Eliza's parents and knows he wasn't there. Scott stammers and can't form a sentence, so Dylan orders his guilty son to get in the car and drives him back home. Back home, Dylan tries to explain to Scott how upset they are, and asks him if he's gay, terrified to hear the answer. When Scott tells them he is 100% straight, Dylan makes him swear this is true, and calls the friends he made at Pride "freaks." When Scott tries to tell them he's going to the club no matter what they say, Dylan puts his foot down and tells Scott he is going to pick him up after school every Wednesday so that he can't go. He asks Scott why he can't join a normal club, and accuses Pride of promoting homosexuality, and he can't accept something he doesn't think is right.
