Sophie is being pulled in two different directions during her first week at school and has to choose; friends or popularity. Either way, one group won't be very happy with her.

Sadie and Jeremy want to leave their mark on the school before they graduate and decide to start a club of their own, but can't seem to agree on anything. Will this put a strain on both the group and their friendship?

Third Plot[]

After a summer of hell, Scott has lost almost all all of his friends and finds it difficult to start new in a new environment.

  • This is the first episode of Clearwater.
  • In this episode, the first semester of the 2012-1013 school year begins.
  • This episode does not follow a linear timeline like most episodes following it do, with time jumps between plotlines.
  • This premiere shares many similarities with the writer's previous pilot of his short-lived series, Tremont Falls.
    • Sophie plays the same part as Lindsay Evans, the new girl on her first day meeting people who all previously went to school together.
    • Abby shares similarities with Dana Reynolds, the popular girl potentially corrupting the new girl.
    • Jamie shares similarities with Lacey Harvest, the more down to earth girl trying to be a real friend to the new girl.

  • Several continuity errors are found in this episode due to much of the series not being figured out.
    • Clearwater was mentioned to be in Ohio, not Florida.
    • Alicia mentions she has a brother, when later in the series, she is an only child.
  • It is established in this episode that the new freshman class are from two different middle schools. Abby, Brad, Danielle, Alicia, and Leah went to one, and Scott, Eliza, Brittany, Chloe, Gina, Moon, Jamie, and Keith went to another.
  • It is strange that Jamie and Danielle are close enough friends to have a sleepover, as Jamie is a Junior, and Danielle a freshman, and did not attend the same middle school, so Danielle would not know Jamie's younger sister. This is an inconsistency in the continuity.
  • While it is not mentioned in this episode why Scott lost all of his friends, in the Season 3 episode, Same Love, Keith Rossen (who was not present in the first season) explains he told everybody at school that Scott stole from his family after their budding relationship was shot down by Scott. This caused everyone to turn on Scott over the summer.

  • The title of this episode, named after the song "Anything Could Happen" by Ellie Goulding, relates to the idea that with a new beginning, anything is possible. For the audience and the incoming freshman, this is a whole new world, and the future is uncertain. The song is a bit vague, but optimistic about what is to come. In an episode all about new beginnings with Sophie moving to Clearwater and starting high school, Sadie and Jeremy starting their club, and Scott starting fresh after losing his friends, it rings true that anything could happen.
